Text, Type, and Sound

Working with word balloons made me miss working with text. Now not only now do I have a small collection of word balloon drawings, but in addition, a collection of text pieces. I'm uncertain if these pieces would be classified as concrete poetry or sound poems. Dadaist sensibilities towards poetry and typography, over perhaps what conventionally be considered more scholarly aspects of poetry have always held my favor. A good portion of the inspiration for these works also comes from faint memories of some animated Dadaist poetry I saw as a child.  In the next few weeks I should be able to find the time to put at least one of these series into a small book.

Recurring Theme (Word Balloons)

For the past few weeks "word balloons" have become a theme in my work. This is possibly an attempt towards furthering the embrace of comics as a presence within my art practice.

Studio Space Update

Last September I relocated my studio into the new Dynamo Arts Association building. Here I have been continuing work on a series of portrait paintings exploiting different aspects found within the "language of painting". The portraits are not renderings of anyone spisific, but rather an exploration of how personality can be devised through dialogues generated by the relationships of simple shapes and patterns as well as an acute attention to process.
